Planning Music for a Church Event: A Simple Guide
Music helps shape an event, and it works best when planned with the program. Here is a simple approach.
Start with the purpose
Is the event for worship, fellowship, celebration or outreach? The answer shapes volume, style and pacing.
Know your audience
Youth events can handle high-energy Christian dance and hip-hop. A banquet may call for gospel, praise and softer songs. Mixed-age events do best with a range.
Decide the boundaries
Tell your DJ what is appropriate for your community, including any songs or artists to avoid.
Map music to the program
List the moments with music, the moments for speakers and prayer, and the transitions between them. Share this with your DJ.
Check the room
Ask about power, microphones, speaker placement and setup time. Sanctuaries and fellowship halls often sound very different.
Test before guests arrive
A sound check protects your speakers and your message. Allow time for it.
